The Votorantim Group consumes about 4% of all the electric power produced in the Country and generates more than half of the power used in its industrial units. Power generation is a strategic factor for the Group, which constantly invests in performance improvements and new projects.
One of Brazil’s major investors in electrical energy, Votorantim Energy manages the production optimization in 31 hydroelectric power plants, some of them being on shared management basis and others belonging to Votorantim Group. Other 4 own hydroelectric power plants have been either in project stage or in construction already.
Votorantim Energia increased its share to 50% in VBC Energia, main controller of CPFL, one of the foremost companies from the Brazilian electrical sector. CPFL distributes electric power in the interior of São Paulo and in part of Rio Grande do Sul, in addition to operating in the generation and marketing of electricity. Its distributors attend to 5.7 million customers, distributed in 515 municipalities of São Paulo and Rio de Grande do Sul.
