Votorantim is one of Brazil’s biggest private social investors. A historical characteristic which has its origin in the vocation of the proper shareholders, traditional collaborators of several social causes, for example in health area in which it supports Hospital do Câncer, Beneficência Portuguesa and AACD – (Friends Association for Disabled Child).

However Grupo Votorantim’s social action goes beyond the straight contribution to the community, the Group mobilizes human and financial resources in projects of transformation of the Brazilian social reality focused on sustainable development.

In 2004, the investment in these actions was R$30.9 million. The commitment as for the communities in which they perform, has been the shareholders, managers and all professionals from Votorantim’s constant concern.

Several partnerships with the government (public office) keep resources from Grupo Votorantim at governmental agencies’ disposal with the aim of raise citizens’ condition of life by means of improvements in public services management. It is the case of state governments of Minas Gerais and Sergipe, where the Group has contributed in improvement managerial and public education programs.

Votorantim’s external social investments are oriented by Instituto Votorantim, created in the end of 2002 in order to align, fortify the quality of the social actions practiced so far. Instituto Votorantim has the mission of making the community life a propitious environment for the social development. To increasingly fortify the Group’s social performance, Instituto Votorantim has defined a strategic focus and the public target for its actions.

The public-target chosen was the youngsters from 15 to 24 years old and the strategic focus pointed to integral development of the youngster, giving priority to their education and professional qualification.
