Votorantim’s commitment as far as the environment is concerned extrapolates the frontiers of the company. One of the ways used is the environmental education. Check some examples:

- Votorantim Pulp and Paper owns environmental education centers installed in its plants which provide permanent and structured operation;

- Votorantim Metals develops several educational activities amongst its collaborators and in the communities in which it is inserted;

- Votorantim Cement keeps an environmental education program in the region of the hydroelectric plant Pedra do Cavalo, in Bahia State, aimed to elementary school and high school teachers in the region, moreover the monitoring program of ictiofauna;

- Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio – CBA  keeps in its factory surroundings in Alumínio (SP), Brazil’s biggest private reserve of Mata Atlântica (forest wood) with 280 thousand hectares;

- In Paracatu, in Minas Geris State, Ibama utilizes a Votorantim Metais’ 2 thousand hectares area, aimed to the preservation of both fauna and flora in order to make experiments with a rare species of bird, the so-called Mycteria Americana, popularly known as dry-head;

- With the building of a hydroelectric plant, Votorantim Energy – VE removes the vegetation of the area to be flooded which avoids, at the same time, the excess of nutrients in water and the risks as to recreational use of the reservoir and fluvial transportation. Before the flooding, seeds of native plants are collected so that a vivarium is formed. This will provoke the formation of a cilium wood of the reservoir. Fish is also monitored aiming the correct handling of the reservoir as well as the hydrographic pelvic cavity.
