15/02/2007 - Votorantim encourages creation of free professional training courses in Três Lagoas

VPP MS is taking part today in the public hearing held by the Ministry of Labor and Employment to present to the region of Três Lagoas (MS) the free professional training courses to be offered to the population this quarter. The courses aim at preparing the region’s labor to benefit from the job opportunities created in the construction phase of its pulp plant. “Going by the value of the investment and standard of the plant we want to build, we will need the best labor available in the market. These courses have this function: qualify the region’s worker for him or her to occupy majority of the vacancies available”, states Luiz Alberto Banci, general manager of VPP MS human resources.

The pulp and paper plant construction project should have investments of R$ 3 billion in the next two years. Votorantim is responsible for 86% of this investment, equivalent to little over R$ 2.5 billion, to be destined for the construction of its pulp plant.

The creation of training courses was possible thanks to an important partnership involving Federal (SINE – Ministry of Labor and Employment), State and Municipal Governments, in addition to entities references in education and professional training in Brazil, such as SENAI. With the partnership, about 5 thousand vacancies were created, for approximately 26 different technical teachings, in areas like civil construction, electromechanical assembly and safety.

During the works period (started in 2006), an average of about 5 thousand professionals should be hired, from the most diverse areas. This number can reach 10 thousand vacancies during the peak phase. VPP MS believes in the power and endeavor of Três Lagoas community and hope that the professionals from the regions come to occupy the majority of possible vacancies. We hope and worked for this to happen. Our commitment is to give preference to the hiring of local labor, but it is the commitment to the community that will guarantee the success of this training and qualification strategy”, explains Banci.

Among the advantages, a new level of qualification should be established for the regional job market. “Even those who are unable to work directly on the VPP MS pulp plant’s construction, due to the professional experience, may be used in one of the many possibilities that the local job market should provide. That is, with these courses, all the participants will improve their knowledge and professional qualification, being that many should acquire new professions”, states Banci.
