Votorantim subscribed recently to the principles of the Global Compact, the world's largest corporate responsibility initiative. Coordinated by the United Nations (UN), the Compact has been joined by more than 8,000 companies in 135 countries.
The purpose of the Global Compact is to mobilize the international business community to adopt, in their business practices, fundamental, internationally-accepted human rights, labor relations, environment, and anti-corruption values which are reflected in 10 principles.
1. Respect and protect human rights;
2. Prevent human rights violations;
3. Support freedom of association at work;
4. Abolish forced labor;
5. Abolish child labor;
6. Eliminate discrimination in the workplace;
7. Support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
8. Promote environmental responsibility;
9. Encourage technologies that do not harm the environment;
10. Fight corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
It is a voluntary initiative that seeks to provide guidelines to promote sustainable growth and citizenship through committed and innovative corporate leaders.
By joining the Compact, in addition to committing to respect its principles, Votorantim earns the right to use the Global Compact logo in its media.
