Votorantim has helped sponsor the International Workshop on Business and Biodiversity in line with its awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and biodiversity.
The Workshop, which was organized by the LIFE Institute, took place in Rio de Janeiro on December 5 and brought together specialists in environmental preservation from governments, executives of large companies, academics and NGOs from Brazil and other countries.
The biologist Frineia Rezende, who manages projects focused on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Votorantim Industrial´s Sustainability area and is also president of the Biodiversity and Biotechnology Working Group (local acronym CTBio) of the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), gave a speech on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
“Votorantim is pledged to ensuring the preservation of biodiversity and operates in line with international protection agreements aimed at guaranteeing the sustainability of natural resources in the long term,” she said.
The Workshop was also addressed by André Ilha, Director of Biodiversity and Protected Areas of the Rio de Janeiro State Environmental Institute (INEA), Francine Leal Franco, partner and member of the Sustainability Board of GSS, and several other speakers.
The participants at the Workshop discussed essential questions on sustainable development and business engagement in preserving biodiversity, as well as existing successful market practices.
