Fibria: leadership in the renewable forestry business

Fibria is the company which resulted from the incorporation of the shares of Aracruz by VCP and brings together 15,000 professionals. The operation, which was announced to the market on January 20, was successfully concluded on August 26 following Extraordinary General Meetings of shareholders which approved the incorporation. Fibria´s main shareholders are BNDESpar, with a participation of 34.9%, and the Votorantim Group, with 29.3%, and there is a free float of 35.8% traded on the market.

VCP´s acquisition of Aracruz was one of the largest transactions of its kind held in Brazil and the subsequent creation of Fibria reaffirmed the country´s outstanding position in terms of production and exports of pulp made from renewable forests.

Fibria is born a global leader, with annual productive capacity of more than six million tons of pulp and paper. It has a workforce of around 15,000 operating in six plants and five sales offices abroad, located in the main consumer centers. Almost all the pulp it produces will be for export.

Fibria has estimated annual net revenues of R$ 6 billion, considering the joint results of the founding companies in the 12 months to June 2009. Previously-announced expansion programs will be implemented depending on the market conditions and expand its productive capacity by up to 6.7 million tons of additional pulp and create around 9,000 new direct jobs.

The CEO of Fibria is Carlos Aguiar and the chairman of the Board of Directors is José Luciano Penido.

Fibria has plantations in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Bahia. It has a broad, diversified forestry base which ensures it is self-sufficient in raw materials for its operations. The company has a total of 1.3 million hectares of forested areas, of which 461,000 hectares are destined for permanent preservation.

Fibria´s forestry base will also be supported by around 120,000 hectares of renewable plantations from participants in the forestry supply program. This is an important alternative source of wood for the company and a diversified means of income for the rural producer. More than 4,000 contracts have been made in hundreds of towns in different regions of Brazil. Supplying Fibria with forestry products creates thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the countryside.

The opportunities for synergy captured by Fibria from its two originating operations are initially estimated at R$ 4.5 billion. The operating, commercial, and sustainable practice gains will boost the new company´s efficiency and competitiveness to meet the more demanding needs of the market. It will also follow the best corporate governance practices and migrate to the Novo Mercado of the São Paulo stock market.

The logo
The name Fibria comes from the word “fiber” which is at the heart of the business — pulp fiber extracted from wood from renewable plantations — and is also a common feature of the history of two founding companies, written with determination and consistency.
Fibria´s core values include the commitment to have and promote attitudes based on a collaborative approach, partnership and integration. The company´s aim is to be a player which leads the segment not only in terms of technical skills, expertise and financial results but also in terms of legitimate social results.

The visual identity incorporates elements which are present naturally in the company´s activities. The green comes from chlorophyll, an element which is essential for plant life and is found in eucalyptus forests, and the flag of Brazil where the company comes from. The grey and orange appear as secondary colors: the grey with the neutrality which enhances the other tones and the orange which represents the vital energy from sunlight.
