Votorantim Cement was highlighted in the second Climate Change Prize presented by the news magazine Época. The company was one of 21 listed in the “Leading Company in Climate Policies” category at the award ceremony. VC received an award in the Best Management category last year for providing a detailed inventory of its emissions.
Some of the factors which contributed to VC’s recognition were the technologies used in its new plants to reduce emissions and the advances made in the development of different input for the production of cement. This includes the use of pozzuolana clay in the new kiln at the Nobres (MT) plant and in all the kilns at the Porto Velho (RO) plant.
"The sustainable construction of Porto Velho and the pozzuolana line in Nobres can be held up as an investment model which showed concern for and focused on global climate changes," said Edvaldo Araújo Rabelo, director of Industrial Operations for Brazil.
