Steel

Votorantin Steel was created in 2008 and reflects the repositioning of the Group, the growth of the steel mill market, its importance in the domestic and international scenarios, and the pertaining specificities of the steel industry such as technology and product diversity.

The results in 2010 for this segment was fostered by civil construction and infrastructure performance, especially in Brazil. The business evolution was also observed in operations in Argentina and Colombia. Performance was also boosted by the full operation of Resende unit, opened in September 2009, with steelmaking capacity of 1 million tons/year and rolling mill capacity of 500 thousand tons/year.

In 2010, Votorantim Siderurgia sold 1.6 million tons, an increase of 36%, having gained market share in long steel. In flat steel, VS participates with 13% voting control of Usiminas, which also had a strong rebound in sales during the year.

The prospects for 2011 are positive for all three countries where operations are conducted.

Products: bar and roll rebars, cut and folded materials, annealed wire, truss frames, electrowelded screens, profiles, angles, mechanic round, wire rod and flat bar.

Brands: Votoraço (Brazil), AcerBrag (Argentina), Acerías Paz del Río (Colombia).
